French Vanilla Almond Granola
My husband loves the french vanilla almond granola found in the bulk bins at the grocery store. It is so expensive, I decided to come up with my own recipe. Slow baking and lots of vanilla make this granola crunchy and delicious. I have found that when I increase the recipe, it requires more baking time. When I double the recipe, I have to bake it for 3 hours or more. Just keep baking until dry to the touch.

Menurut berita yang dilansir dari The Telegraph, para pecinta es krim varian vanilla perlu mewaspadai kenaikan harga es krim. Karena salah satu dessert favorit di Amerika ini akan segera menjadi barang yang mewah khususnya es krim vanilla.
Vanilla atau vanili merupakan salah satu bumbu perasa, berasal dari tanaman sejenis anggrek dan pertama kali tumbuh di Meksiko. Kata vanili berasal dari bahasa Spanyol “vaina” yang artinya polong. Pada tahun 1520-an tanaman ini mulai di perkenalkan oleh negara Spanyol ke negara Eropa lainnya. Vanilla juga dikenal sebagai bumbu paling mahal setelah kunyit.
Secara global harga vanila sudah mulai melonjak dari $ 25 atau Rp. 225.000 per kg hingga $ 35 dan $ 40 atau Rp. 360.000 per kg. Seperti berita yang dilaporkan Management Today, hal ini bisa mengakibatkan harga es krim naik hingga 10 persen. Ini terjadi karena hasil panen tanaman vanili mulai berkurang tahun ini.
“Vanili akan menjadi bahan makanan termahal khususnya untuk bahan pembuatan es krim, sehingga konsumen akan sedikit sulit untuk menyiapkan biaya ekstra untuk membali es krim,” ujar Nick Peska, seorang direktur pengembangan bisnis di Mintec Management Today.
Juga menurut berita yang dilansir Daily Mail, seluruh negara mungkin akan merasakan kenaikan harga es krim, khususnya negara Madagaskar, Indonesia, India dan Meksiko. Ke empat negara tersebut juga merupakan produsen vanili terbesar dan saat ini telah mengalami penurunan produksi.
International Dairy Foods Association menyebutkan, es krim merupakan makanan penutup yang disajikan beku dan dikonsumsi oleh lebih dari 90 persen masyarakat di Amerika Serikat.
